Dual Language Immersion Program
In 2010, St. Anthony Catholic School adopted an immersion model, teaching students in both Spanish and English. Students can start this in PreKindergarten or Kindergarten. They can possibly start in other grades after we assess how much they are able to read, write and speak in Spanish already.
We are blessed to be a part of a national consortium under the sponsorship of Boston College. They help make it possible for us to access the resources of the Roche Center for Catholic Education at the Lynch School of Education at Boston College.
Each summer some of the school staff travel to work with teachers across the United States that are teaching at multi-lingual schools, in connection with Boston College and their Two Way Immersion Network for Catholic Schools (TWINCS). We also work with these connections throughout the school year through monthly meetings where we share ideas, challenge each other, and use each other for ideas and brainstorming on how we can continue to strengthen and grow our program.
Dual Language classes are open to all students, whether they have Spanish spoken to them at home or not. All students can learn in two languages and be bilingual and biliterate by the time they each 5th grade.
